Werner Marvin Bremel, age 92, died on February 7, 2012, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City, Wis., after a brief illness.

Formerly of Mondovi and Fall Creek, Wis., Werner was born in the Town of Lincoln, Eau Claire County, Wis., May 22, 1919, the son of Herman and Irma (Moldenhauer) Bremel.
Werner attended Bears Grass grade school and later received a degree in Agriculture from Chippewa Technical School. After enlisting in the Air Force in 1941, he was transferred into the Army Anti-Aircraft Artillery-10mm, at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of The American Legion, Mondovi Post 154.

Werner married Irene Strasburg on August 8, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fall Creek. They were members at St. John's for 80 years and more recently, Zion Lutheran Church, Mondovi. He served on St. John's board of Elders and as church council chairman for 24 years. Werner and Irene farmed together for 40 years in Lincoln Township and developed their Bremco registered Holsteins to be one of the leading production herds in the state. They retired in 1981 and moved to Mondovi.

Werner was a member and past president of Eau Claire County Holstein Breeders, and a member of Dairy Shrine, Eau Claire Dairymen, Farmers Home Administration and Dolly Madison Milk Producers, serving on their board of directors. He received Wisconsin's national Goodyear Certificate of Merit Award for outstanding service to soil conservation. He was active in the local 4-H club, a member of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau, Eau Claire County Soil Conservation Association and Eau Claire Republican Party.

In retirement, Werner and Irene spent time traveling and winters in Arizona. They created woodwork crafts and enjoyed many fishing trips together. Werner's second love was fishing, especially in the Canadian waters of Ontario and Saskatchewan, making his last trip at 88 years of age.

He is survived by son, Robert (Jane Homan) Bremel, Hillpoint, Wis.; daughter, Mary (Philip) Hasheider, Sauk City; four grandchildren, Deborah (Nick) Hansen, Michael (Tasha) Bremel, Marcus Hasheider, Julia Hasheider; four great-grandchildren, Alec and Brooke Hansen, Madeline and Abigail Bremel; and sisters-in-law Gail Bremel and Jane Zich.
