Robert Mayer Sr.
Robert Mayer Sr., 66 of Augusta, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. .  

Robert Oscar Mayer, son of Raymond and Marie (Thome) Mayer was born Aug. 16, 1945 in New Holstein, WI. He attended Fond du Lac High School and entered the United States Army on July 14, 1964. Bob served during the Vietnam Era as a mechanic in Germany. He was honorably discharged in July of 1970 and returned to Fond du Lac where he met Catherine Bertram. The couple were married on Sept. 29, 1972 in Eau Claire. They lived all their married life in Augusta, where for a short time he had worked for his father-in-law, Alex Bertram in his salvage business, for Willie Rouleau’s Cement Construction and as a mechanic for Bud Wilkinson Auto Sales. In 1974 he began his 30 year employment with the Eau Claire County Highway Department, retiring in 2003. Bob enjoyed the numerous camping trips taken with his family, fishing and the annual deer hunting season in Wisconsin. He was fond of working on John Deere tractors, but he especially loved the time spent watching his grandchildren’s sporting and other school events.  

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Catherine of Augusta, son, Robert Mayer Jr. (Bethany Bowe) of Augusta; daughter, Renee Mayer of Augusta; 4 grandchildren, Marshall, Calvin, Kendall and Keegan Mayer; brother, Cyril Mayer of Fond du Lac; 3 sisters, Julie Mango of Illinois, Lucy Mayer of Kansas, and Barb (Dale) Emmer of Malone, WI; 5 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernice Gonzales and brother, Melvin Mayer. 


The family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone they encountered at Mayo Clinic Health System - Eau Claire, and especially the aides and the nurses of the 4th. floor and the doctors and nurses with the cancer center. Your care and concern will never be forgotten.  

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Dale Hazard officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m on Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
