Elizabeth "Betty" Sommers
Elizabeth Ann Sommers, 83, of Eau Claire and formerly of New Auburn and Augusta, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026. She was where she wanted to be, at her home in the loving care of her family and with the guidance of St. Croix Hospice- Chippewa Falls.

Betty was born February 27, 1943, to John “Harold” and Elizabeth (Rudolph) Householder. She was raised with her 3 brothers in the Mauston area before moving with her family to Milwaukee. It was in Milwaukee that Betty graduated from Mercy High School.

While in Milwaukee she met and married Michael Horbinski, and to this union she was blessed with the birth of 2 sons. Betty later was united in marriage to George Sommers on Nov. 19, 1971, in Iron Mountain, MI. This was a blended marriage uniting George’s 3 children, her 2 sons, and then the family grew with the birth of a son and daughter to this marriage. George and Betty also opened and shared their home with foster children and eventually adopted Stacey, a very special needs daughter that stole their hearts at just a few weeks old, and for 43 years Betty dedicated her life to taking care of Stacey.

After George and Betty were married they moved to New Auburn where they operated a general store until the mid 70s. They then bought a house on Loon Lake and resided there until 1995. In 1995 they moved to Augusta and at this time Betty was employed at John’s IGA. The most important part of her life was her family and spending time with them . She especially loved fishing and hunting birds with George, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and preparing delicious meals and desserts to share with anyone who stopped by. In later years she found it relaxing to do diamond art.

Betty will be dearly missed by her 3 sons, Michael (Kristin) Horbinski and Mark (Wendy) Horbinski all of Necedah, Shawn Sommers (Alisha Hall) of Fall Creek; daughter, Diane Sommers (John Tom) of Medford; daughter in laws, Renee Sommers of Augusta, Lynda Sommers of Hortonville; step daughters, Kathleen (John) Sifuentes of Milwaukee, Lori (Rob) Kaufman of Florida; Foster daughter, Cindy (Corey) Hanson of Abbottsford; 14 grandchildren, Simone (Aaron) Kirchoff, Hannah (Charlie) Ladwig, Hunter and Shandra Sommers, Mason Loftsgordon, Olivia, McKenna and Isaiah Hall, Derek (Coni) and Tyler Horbinski, Mikayla Baird, Haley (Zohair DayDay), Tripp and Trey (Maia) Horbinski; 8 great grandchildren, Bentley and Copen Horbinski, Warren, Winston, Waylon and Wren Kirchoff, Lyla Sommers and Violet Ladwig; 8 step grandchildren, Johnny, Mark and Michael Sifuentes, Nick Sommers, Tod Penoska, Joseph, Michael and Matthew Sommers and their families.

The family is comforted knowing that Betty has been reunited with her parents; husband George; daughter Stacey Sommers; step son Michael Sommers; and brothers, Glenn, Arnold and Carl Householder.

A viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta
