Beverly Joyce Pettis, age 89, passed away peacefully at the Dove Healthcare Center in Osseo on Thursday morning, July 23, 2026, where she had been a resident for nearly four years.
Beverly was born on May 28, 1937, near Portland, Oregon, in Beaver Creek, the daughter of Leo and Lola (Hudson) Hagedorn. As a young child, her family relocated back to the Ludington area of Eau Claire County. It was there that she grew up, attending the Oakridge and White Country School and Augusta High School.
On July 30, 1954, Beverly was united in marriage to Gerald Pettis. The couple spent most of their married life raising their family in the town of Bridge Creek before later divorcing.
Beverly was a woman of incredible resilience and continued to operate the family farm in the town of Bridge Creek, where she raised her nine children. After later turning the operation of the farm over to her son, Beverly moved just south of the homestead. She later resided with her daughter, Michelle, before moving into the city of Augusta in 2016 to be near her daughter Geraldine and her family.
Beverly enjoyed all aspects of farming, from the field work to tending to all the animals. She loved her gardens and not only had beautiful flower beds, but also raised and canned a large amount of vegetables to feed her family. In her quieter moments, Beverly loved to crochet, read books, watch her favorite TV shows, especially soap operas, and she was always ready to offer her expert babysitting skills, not only to her own family but to neighborhood children as well. Above all else, she immensely enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beverly will be dearly missed by her 4 daughters, Deborah Pettis, Geraldine (Dale) Erdman, of Augusta, Tammy (James) Melton of Spooner, Michelle Pettis of Fairchild; 4 sons, Gerald Jr. (Mary) Pettis of Eau Claire, Jim Pettis of Altoona, John (Theresa) Pettis of Augusta, Michael Pettis Sr. of Mondovi; son-in-law, Jose Melendez of Deer Park; 28 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virginia Schwoch, Marcella Pettis, Ellie and Marjory Pettis, Josie Pettis all of Augusta, Harriett and Daryl Dehnke of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Lola; daughter, Joan Melendez; daughter-in-law, Julie Pettis; and siblings, Lawrence, Clarence, Fred, Ira, Louis and Ernest Hagedorn, Minnie Dehnke, Evelyn Hall, Irene Berlin, Emma Berlin, Clara Carpenter and Mildred Dekan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating.
Burial will be in the Ludington Cemetery.
