Paul J. Lauterbach (Pauley), age 85, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Dimensions Living in Eau Claire. He was born on June 7, 1940, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Lillian (Schilling) Lauterbach.
Raised in Holmen, Paul spent his early years bottling and delivering milk with his dad. At age 16, he moved to Foster to live and work on his Uncle Armin’s farm. He graduated from Osseo High School in 1959 and married Louise Olson, on June 6, 1964.
Together, Paul and Louise purchased the farm and raised their three children. He dedicated 35 years to farming before transitioning to carpentry for several years, where he earned the nickname “Happy Hammer.” A naturally curious and resourceful craftsman, Paul loved to figure out how things worked and was always inventing things, one of them being the wood splitter, to make every day life easier.
Paul was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved to dance, bowl, golf, hunt, fish, camp, play cards and go the Foster Cenex. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan, rarely missing a sport or activity they were involved in. Known for his mischievous spirit, Paul loved a good prank, joking around, and creating laughter wherever he went. He had a deep love for rock-n-roll music; if it had a "good beat to it," Paul would be bopping his head or hitting the dance floor. In his own words, “Let’s Twist Again!”
Paul is survived by his wife, Louise; his daughters, Angie (Shawn) Holden and Amy (Tim) Rindahl; his son, Wayne (Kim) Lauterbach; his grandchildren, Erica Michels, Josh (Sammi) Rindahl, Joe (Brittaney) Lauterbach, Brandon (Jordyn) Rindahl, Hunter Johnson (friend Treasure), Morgan Lauterbach (friend Austin), and step-grandchild Morgan Holden. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Knox Lauterbach and Posie Lauterbach; his brothers, Ralph (Paulette) Lauterbach and Gary (Jerry Ann) Lauterbach; his sisters, Judy (Ron) Welke and Diane (Dale) Holmen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his parents-in-law, Albert and Luella Olson.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Dimensions Living for their wonderful care, and to St. Croix Hospice for their frequent visits, companionship, and support. Your kindness was deeply appreciated.
