Diane Marie Kania

July 20, 1953 – February 14, 2026

Diane Marie Kania, 72, of Stanley, WI passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening February 14, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Diane was born on July 20, 1953, in Chicago, IL, to Edward and Eleanor (Jesionowski) Bernal. She was raised in Chicago, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1971.

Diane lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Tracy, California. While in California she worked at Pacific Medical Inc. until she retired in 2014. Diane then moved to Stanley, WI in 2020 to be closer to her sister Karen and her family.

In her earlier years in Chicago, Diane enjoyed time spent with family, especially gatherings with her brother, sister, and their families. Though she never had children of her own, she treasured her role as aunt to her nieces and nephews. In later years, Diane found comfort in quiet hobbies such as puzzles, reading, and watching television. She was never happier than when she was watching her favorite tv shows or movies; Hudson & Rex, Hallmark movies, and soap operas which were among her favorites. Her favorite color was purple and could be found everywhere in her apartment. She was content with her private lifestyle, but she always appreciated the visits and time shared with her family and friends.

Diane will be dearly missed by her brother, Larry (Patsy) Bernal of Justice, IL; brother-in-law Wayne Bonick of Boyd; 5 nieces, Tina (Troy) Anderson of Augusta, Michele (Chad) Girard of Boyd, Loren (Troy) Potaczek of Stanley, Tisha (Eric) Schuebel of Boyd, Samantha (Becky) Pierce of Hawkins; 4 nephews, Deacon (Renee) Bonick of Brillion, Mike Bonick of Menomonie, Ted Bonick of Stanley, Josh Bonick (Lisa Lawonn) of Hartford, Jordan (Katelen) Videka serving in the Marine Corp. in North Carolina; as well as many great nieces and nephews; special friends, Cheryl and Ray Schaff and children, Trent and Blake, of North Carolina; and her neighbor and dear friend Duane Witt of Stanley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Eleanor Bernal; and her sister Karen Bonick who passed in 2022.

Graveside services will be held at a later date with a private family Celebration of Life to follow.
