Harry Hicks
Harry Earl Hicks, 85, of rural Augusta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026, at Dove Healthcare-West in Eau Claire, where he had resided during the past year due to declining health.

Harry was born March 16, 1941, in Eau Claire County, the son of Boyd and Verda (Back) Hicks. He spent his early years in the Town of Union before moving with his family to rural Augusta in 1951, settling in Lincoln Township, a place he would proudly call home for most of his life. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta in 1955 and graduated from Augusta High School with the Class of 1959. Following graduation he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College, earning an associate degree in machining.

A proud veteran, Harry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, spending much of his enlistment stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he married Charlotte Schutz in May of 1971. The couple initially made their home in Eau Claire before returning to rural Augusta in 1975, where they built a home on the Hicks family property.
Harry's strong work ethic was evident throughout his career. For many years, he worked as a machinist at McDonough Manufacturing in Eau Claire, producing parts used in sawmills. Even after retirement, he wasn't ready to slow down, spending another six years working for the City of Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department.

Beyond his work, Harry found great enjoyment in the people and activities that filled his life. He was a member of the Augusta American Legion and spent many years with the Augusta Sportsman's Club, where he enjoyed shooting trap. He generously volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, helping guide and mentor young people in the community. Whether hunting, fishing, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, or attending country music concerts, Harry appreciated life's simple pleasures. He especially enjoyed following local country bands and sharing those experiences with family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Charlotte of Augusta; his children, Dawn (Tom) Rose of Black River Falls, LaVerne (Trina) Hicks of New Berlin, and James (Michele) Hicks of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Gavin and Sophie Hicks, Aubrie and Alissa DeMers, and Zander and Amaya Hicks; along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Verda Hicks: and his sister Dorothy Hicks.

A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Military honors will be presented at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
