Janice Louise Coffey, age 82, of rural Osseo, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Osseo.
Janice was born on June 15, 1943, to Beryl and Elsie (Dettmer) Kewin. She was raised in the Town of Wilson area in Eau Claire County, near Stanley, WI. It was there she attended Pleasant Valley Country School and later graduated from Stanley High School in 1961.
Following her graduation, Janice moved to Milwaukee, where she was employed as a clerical worker with UnitedHealthcare. She later took a position working on the assembly line at Master Lock, also in Milwaukee. While living there, she met Earl Coffey, and the two returned to Stanley where they were united in marriage on November 13, 1965. They had made their home in the Stanley area and in Foster, before settling near Osseo in 1971.
Janice was the devoted mother of four children. When her youngest child was in high school, she began working at the Osseo Area Hospital and Nursing Home, where she was employed in the laundry and housekeeping department until her retirement.
In addition to raising her family and working outside the home, Janice maintained large gardens and faithfully canned produce to provide for her family. She also found great pleasure in picking strawberries and over the years gathered countless quarts to share with her family. She had a special talent for cake decorating and over the years baked and decorated many beautiful and delicious wedding and birthday cakes, as well as cakes for numerous other occasions in the area.
Janice was also a gifted seamstress who enjoyed sewing and embroidery. She generously gave her time as a Girl Scout leader and as a 4-H leader when her children were involved in those activities. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Osseo, where she helped wherever needed. She especially enjoyed participating in the quilting group, the ladies fellowship society and you could always count on her assisting with church functions, particularly the annual harvest supper.
Janice enjoyed bowling and treasured her time in a couples’ league known as “Earl and the Fiddlers.” Janice also enjoyed playing softball and served both as a league player and a coach.
One of Janice’s most treasured roles in life was being Grandma and Great-Grandma to her 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment she was blessed to spend with them.
Janice will be deeply missed by her 2 daughters, Connie (Brian) Matchey, Becky (Tom) Linaman; 2 sons, Craig (Alisha) Coffey, Darrell (Tianna) Coffey; 13 grandchildren, Shana (Mitch) Bradford, Kyra White, Neil (Claire) Matchey, Steven (Derrian) Coffey, ViNola Matchey, NormaJean Ellenberger, Tabitha Coffey, Tatianna Coffey, Trinity Coffey, Alex Coffey, Carnelius Coffey, Adam Coffey, Addalynn Coffey; 8 great grandchildren, Lilly Gumz, Carmen Kunes, Kyli Kunes, Kasey White, Calvin Ellenberger, Elsie Ellenberger, Alora Coffey and Jaxson Frank; brother, Gene (Gayle) Kewin; in-laws, Allen Coffey, Edna Coffey, JoAnn Kewin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
