Harvey Neil Schwoch, age 82, a lifelong resident of Augusta, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2025, at Care Partners Memory Care in Altoona, with his loving family by his side.
Harvey was born on December 17, 1942, in Augusta, the son of Otto and Martha (Zillmer) Schwoch. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church and graduated from Augusta High School with the Class of 1961.
After high school, Harvey worked at the Augusta Creamery and later for Canteen Vending Service in Eau Claire. He eventually began what became a more than 22-year career with the Augusta School District. For 17 and a half years, he served as the nighttime janitor at the high school, then transitioned to the elementary school as the daytime custodian until his retirement. Harvey loved his job—not only keeping the schools clean but also supporting teachers, staff, and students in any way he could. Always willing to lend a hand, he took pride in being helpful and was a familiar, friendly face to many. He was an avid supporter of the school’s athletic teams and took great joy in cheering them on.
At home, Harvey was a devoted husband to his wife, Pat, and a loving father to their two children, Lisa and Kyle. Family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He took pride in caring for his lawn and was always happy to help his neighbors. Known for his kind spirit and generous heart, Harvey was always ready to lend a hand.
He also enjoyed the companionship of the family's dogs over the years, faithfully walking them before work each day. He loved listening to country and polka music and enjoyed reading both the Leader-Telegram and the Augusta Area Times. In recent years, as his health declined, he looked forward to visits from his sister-in-law, Vicki, especially when she brought along snacks and companionship while Pat was away for appointments or errands.
Harvey will be dearly missed by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Pat; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Waller of Augusta; son, Kyle (Sara) Schwoch of Sun Prairie; and his six grandchildren: Sam and Bennett Waller, and Owen, Alaina, Evan, and Alexa Schwoch. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Vicki (Dean) Bruder and Virginia (Dean) Schwoch, both of Augusta; brother-in-law Frank (Katie) Pape of Augusta; and sister Wilma (Irv) Bird of Amery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Martha; brother Dale (Arlie) Schwoch; brother Gordon Schwoch in infancy; and half-siblings Helen, William (Ursula), and Edna Roepke. Although not preceded in death by his brother Dean, the two brothers passed away within hours of each other on the same day.
As per Harvey’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
The family is being assisted by Anderson Funeral Home, Augusta.
