James Schmidt
James Marlin Schmidt, son of Marlin and Josephine (Schmidt) Schmidt was born December 20, 1942.  He was raised with his 4 siblings in Fairchild, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church and attended Fairchild High School.

While growing up, he was a tremendous help to his parents in the Cheese Factory that they operated in Fairchild. After his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and faithfully served his country.
Jim was united in marriage to Marlene Metcalf, and to this union his four children were born. After his honorable discharge, he moved to La Porte, Indiana, where he worked as a mason and also at the Modine Company.

In 1973, he moved his family back to Fairchild, where he continued to work as a mason, constructing many basements in the Fairchild area. He later switched careers and began semi-truck driving with Diamond Trucking Company. Over the years, Jim traveled countless miles as a long-distance semi-truck driver. Many of these miles were added after 1980, when he and his brother Rick established Schmidt Brothers Transport. They operated the business together for 33 years, both retiring in October of 2013.

Jim eventually married Sherri (Shermo) Brixen Norris in 1988, and the couple shared their life together in Bridge Creek Township, rural Fairchild. Due to failing health, Jim recently entered Dove Healthcare in Osseo, where he shared a room with his wife. It was there at the nursing home that he passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, November 18, 2025, having reached the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

Throughout the years, Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting in Wisconsin. He loved fishing in the Waupaca area with his family, making many memorable trips, and he enjoyed deer hunting around home. He always looked forward to hosting the annual deer camp on his property, relishing the food, the stories, and all the camaraderie that came with it.

He also enjoyed dancing throughout his life; polkas, western dancing, waltzes, if the music was playing, Jim was ready to dance. His favorite sports to follow were the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR racing.

Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sherri of Osseo; 2 daughters, Jamie (Rick) Branter of Eau Claire,  Theresa (Randy) Peterson of Augusta; son Ora (Twyla) Schmidt of Eau Claire; step-son, Tony Brixen of Osseo: step daughters,  Tracy Brixen of Pigeon Falls, Jenny (Bruce) Smith of Eleva; and step daughter-in-law Teresa Brixen of Fairchild; 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren;  several step grand and great grandchildren; sisters, Gloria (Ronald) Watson of Rockford, IL, Susan  Olinger of Eau Claire, Lois (Greg) Laufenberg of Osseo; sister-in-law Jane Schmidt of Augusta; many nieces, nephews and their families.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Josephine; son James Bradley Schmidt; brother Rick Schmidt; step-son Todd Brixen;  step-daughter-in-law Jenny Brixen; and brother-in-law David Olinger.

A visitation will be held Monday, November 24, 2025, from noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
