Virginia Elizabeth Scanlon age 83, passed away early Sunday April 27th, 2025, at the Beehive Memory Care Facility. Born in Augusta, WI, she was the cherished daughter of Harry and Edna (Schimmelfpennig) Eaton. Virginia was one of ten siblings: Sandra, Robert, Jack, Dale, Dean, Dorothy, Jim, Lucille and Marjory. She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta and attended Kirkham Valley Country School.
Virginia married Warren Scanlon Sr., and together, they raised their family in Eau Claire, WI, including their daughter Diane Scanlon and son Warren "Joe" Scanlon Jr. Virginia dedicated many years to Brotoloc Health Care, caring for adults with disabilities overnight. She also lovingly helped raise her grandchildren, Cory and Carly in her beautiful home on the Westside of Eau Claire. But her pride and heart were her great grandbabies Willow and Lainey Sigears. She cherished both girls, enjoying many visits, sharing stories and treats including sausage pizza and nutty bars.
She was an avid gardener who found joy in the outdoors and had a deep love for animals, often rescuing strays and providing them with homes including her beloved "Sporty" cat. Many friends and neighbors who knew her fondly referred to her as "Grandma" as she nurtured all who knew her. Virginia lived with compassion, courage, and gratitude. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her sister Sandra Eaton-Plessel of Augusta, Grandson Cory Sigears of Eau Claire (Amanda), Granddaughter Carly Sigears of Lutz, FL (Dan) and great grandchildren Willow and Lainey Sigears & Noah and Auri Simpson. She is preceded in death by her husband Warren Scanlon, parents; siblings: Robert, Jack, Dale, Dean and Jim Eaton, Dorothy Reetz, Lucille Zielie, and Marjory Anderson; son Warren Scanlon Jr. and daughter Diane Scanlon.
The family is deeply appreciative for the loving care and attention that Virginia received from the Beehive Care team throughout her last few years. The extraordinary support that was given brought both comfort and encouragement during the most difficult days.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 10th at 12:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, Wisconsin. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made in Virginia's honor to the Eau Claire County Humane Association.
