She was raised in the Eau Claire area and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1954. She went on to attend Wisconsin State College in Eau Claire, where she graduated in 1956 with a degree in elementary education.

From 1956 to 1957, Beverly taught at Oak Creek School in the Town of Brunswick, and for the next two years at the Gysler School near Fall Creek, Both were one-room country schools serving grades one through eight.
On August 2, 1958, Beverly was united in marriage to Donald LaBerge at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Eleva. Together they raised a family of four boys and two girls. After her youngest child turned eight, Beverly returned to UW–Eau Claire to complete her four-year teaching degree. In the fall of 1978, she began teaching kindergarten in the Fall Creek School District, where she touched the lives of countless students over the next 22 years. She retired in the spring of 1999.

Following Donald’s passing in 1988, Beverly lived alone for several years before sharing a home with her daughter, Roxy.
