Tom Tompkins
Tommy R. Tompkins, 78, formerly of rural Fairchild, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, September 17, 2024, at Beehive Memory Care of Eau Claire where he had been a resident since December of 2023.

Tommy Ray Tompkins, son of Nile and Lois (Hawley) Tompkins was born on August 14, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, while his father was stationed in the military.

Tom grew up in Greenwood and later moved to Osseo, graduating from the Osseo High School in 1964. On November 24, 1965, Tom was united in marriage to Bonita Kay Price at her parent's home in Augusta. The couple lived the first year of their married life in Racine and while there Tom worked as a carpenter. The following year they moved to Augusta and lived there until moving to their rural Fairchild home in 1995, residing there until his health issues required the care that Beehive of Eau Claire could provide him.

For 50 years Tom had worked assisting area farmers with their agricultural needs. He started his career with the Augusta Farmers Union which became Cenex and eventually Countryside Co-op. He started in the feed mill and then took over the position as the mill's agronomist working with the seed, mixing the fertilizer and chemicals and also operating the spray truck. For 10 years he managed the Countryside branch in Fall Creek before finishing his career at the Kings Valley location, rural Osseo. Tom retired at the age of 70, but still went back for 2 additional years during the busy time in the spring.

Tom had a vast array of hobbies and interests but number one was spending time hunting with his sons, which he was still doing until his health deteriorated. He was an avid Packer fan and over the years had also enjoyed snowmobiling, watching Mud Bogs and participating in league bowling, softball, pool and pitching horse shoes. Tom and Bonnie were content staying at home but did enjoy a vacation to Las Vegas with friends. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and reminiscing about his youth with his daughters.

Tom appreciated vintage cars and over the years collected several. He was partial to a 63 Chevy, but by far his all time favorite vehicle was the 1955 Ford Crown Victoria.

Tom was also a musician and while in high school he and other classmates formed the band known as the Rhythm Ramblers that played in various bars in the Osseo area. This band eventually dissolved and some of the members went on to form the band known as Sage which is still together.

Tom will be dearly missed by Bonnie, his loving wife of 58 years; 4 children, Todd Tompkins, (Diana Phillips), Terri (Russ) Amans, Traci (Brian) Martinson and Travis Tompkins (Jenny Stensen) all of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, Andy Tompkins, Alex (Micki) Tompkins, Paulette (Tyler) Coleman, Brad (Penny) Schmidt, Tommy (Candice ) Schmidt, Scott Martinson, Kayla Martinson (John Wiemer), Trevor, Mason and Sawyer Tompkins; 13 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Davey and Steve Tompkins both of Osseo, Kenny (Jane) Tompkins of Eau Claire; 3 sisters, Donna Vine of Granton, Vicky Piel of Eau Claire, Debbie (Dave) Stensen of Osseo; several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Nile and Lois; sister Gay Vold; 2 brothers, Randy and Jerry Tompkins; nephews, Dewey Lauterbach, Luke Vold And Gary Roehl; niece Cathy Jean; sister and brothers-in-law, Victor Piel, Dale Vine and Sharon Lebenz; and father and mother-in-law, Paul and Betty Price,
