Harold Kuhnert
Harold Albert Kuhnert, 79, of Altoona, passed away Sunday evening, February 4, 2024, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls, where he had resided since December of 2023.

Harold, known to everyone as “Pete” was born July 26, 1944, the youngest child of Harold and Edith “Ida” (Jaenke) Kuhnert. Harold was raised in Fall Creek where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and also where he attended grade and high school.

In 1965 he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War and proudly served through 1967. Since his military service he had been a life member of the Brackett American Legion Post. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Fall Creek and for the next 33 years he worked at the Eau Claire Paper Mill, retiring at the age of 56.

On July 6, 1984, he was united in marriage to Diane Bauer and the best day of their lives was the day they adopted their son Cody from the Philippines. Pete was a very proud “Daddy.”
He enjoyed taking day trips and cruising Amish country, especially during harvest time. He was truly an animal lover but even bigger bargain hunter. He had a lifelong habit of saving money and making cash purchases. He always looked for the best value in things and avoided any unnecessary spending.

He also enjoyed the time spent driving his black 1961 Chevy Corvette, and each summer looked forward to attending and driving in many of the local parades.

Pete will be dearly missed by Diana, his loving wife of nearly 40 years; son, Cody (Kelly) Kuhnert of Eau Claire; sister, Shirley (Don) Ramseier both residents of the Augusta Nursing Home; brother, Sam (Nancy) Kuhnert of Elk River, MN; brother-in-law Harold Bauer of Mondovi; sisters-in-law, Greta Sobottka of Weston and Linda (Bill) Abramovich of Durand; many nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ida; brother, Ron (Carol) Kuhnert; sisters, Delores (Wayne) Meyer and Charlotte (Jim) Knitter; nephew John Meyer; father and mother-in-law, Paul C. and Clara Bauer; brother-in-law Herman Sobottka; and sister-in-law Lucille Bauer.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at noon at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Fall Creek, with Pastor James Norton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Rock Falls.

Friends may call of Saturday the 17th. from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
