David Card
David Lee Card, 71, and life long resident of Fairchild, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 21, 2024, at his home after recently entering hospice care with Heartland Hospice of Eau Claire.

Dave was born January 3, 1953, one of eleven children born to Mike and Elsie (Lindow) Card. He attended school in Fairchild and graduated from Osseo-Fairchild High School in 1971. After high school Dave served in the United States Army near the end of the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany.

After his honorable discharge he returned to Fairchild and was united in marriage to Janell Marie Connett on Nov. 8, 1980, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta.

All of Dave’s adult life revolved around driving truck. He had driven for several companies and before ill health forced his retirement he had worked 10 years with Lampert Yards of Augusta.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors, especially in his camper on Rose’s Bay near Weyerhaeuser, WI, where the family enjoyed camping, fishing and pontooning. Every year he took part in the annual deer hunts where he and his extended family hunted on the home farm where he was raised. With this property staying in the family, it allowed him to raise his white faced Holsteins that were more like pets than just beef cattle. Each year he also looked forward to attending and tried not to miss the Iola Car Show and going back in time at the Prairie Villa Rendezvous Festival in Prairie Du Chien. He and Janell also went on several vacations and some of the more memorable ones were their Carnival Cruises, visiting Mexico, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Branson. No matter what Dave was doing or where he was there was always a coffee cup in his hand!

Dave gave back to his community of Fairchild through his involvement with the Fairchild Lions Club and had just recently been given his pin recognizing his 35 year membership with the club.

Dave will be deeply missed by Janell his loving wife of 43 years; 3 sons, Jason Hollister of Onalaska, Jeremiah (Kathryn) Knuth of Mondovi and Joshua Card of Fairchild; 5 grandchildren, Jared, Bridgette and Lillyann Knuth, Austin (Jade) Card, Zoey Card; great granddaughter Denver Card; Austin and Zoey’s mother Angie Gunderson of Osseo; 2 brothers, John (Ronnie) Card of Fairchild, Henry Card of Osseo; 2 sisters, Alice (Herb) Hess of Siren, Kathy (Kevin) George of Eau Claire; brother and sisters-in-law, Dawn Card, Jon and Susan Connett all of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Mike on Oct. 29, 1979; mother Elsie on Feb. 26, 1994; sisters, Edna (Darwin) Anderson, Evelyn (Lawrence) Farmer, Donna (Tom) Olson and Beverly Janssen; brothers, Roger Card, Lester “Bud” (Betty) Card; sisters-in-law, Elaine and Norma Card; Janell’s siblings, Judy (Wayne) Heller, Charles and Patrick Connett.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.

Following the visitation a luncheon and additional time to meet with the family will be held at the Fairchild Community Center at 121 Farmer St. in Fairchild.

Graveside services with military honors will be held later this year in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for the care and support given to Dave and his family.
