Alice Vold
Alice Mae Vold
July 11, 1933 – August 28, 2023

VOLD, Alice Mae (Frueh), age 90, of Black River Falls, WI (formerly of Fairchild), left this earth on the morning of August 28, 2023. After a brief battle with cancer, she died peacefully at home, held and cared for by her children and daughter-in-law, Jody.

Sweet, kindhearted Alice was a loving daughter, wife, one-of-a-kind mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Alice was born at home in Augusta, Wisconsin on July 11, 1933, to the late John Albert and Loretta Frueh. Alice graduated from Fairchild High School in 1950. Following a previous marriage, she married the late Stanley "Stan" M. Vold. She shared in his Lutheran faith, and they were happily married for 38 years. Alice was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Alice had many occupations over the years, the first working at a stock brokerage firm in Chicago and the last and longest serving as Fairchild's Elementary School "lunch lady" for 17 years. Alice possessed a multitude of talents and treasured the roles of wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an accomplished cook, gardener, and seamstress. She made legendary apple pies, coleslaw, and canned goods, and could always be counted on if you needed a pair of pants altered, curtains made, or chairs upholstered. An avid reader, Alice shared countless books with her daughters, daughter in-law, and sister Susie. For many years Alice enjoyed creating amazing craftwork, feeding and watching wildlife, scouting thrift sales, and putting puzzles together. She dearly loved babysitting grandchildren and watching her grandsons play sports, especially baseball. She also enjoyed taking road trips and vacations with her daughters. Alice enriched the lives of all who were blessed to know her with love, laughter, and kindness.

Alice is survived by her devoted children: Michael (Jody) Vold, Judy (Richard) Harriman, Sharon Fox, and Dennis (Terry) Fox; her loving grandchildren: Ryder Vold (girlfriend Lauren), Reese Vold (girlfriend Kasey), Rebecca (Jeremy) Griffith, Jennifer (Luke) Gast, Jamie (Holly) Fox, and Jody (Eugene) Saule; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by sister Susie (Bob) Niemi and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives from the Frueh, Fox, and Vold family who affectionately called her Aunt Allie.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Vold; parents John Albert and Loretta Livermore Frueh; brother John Frueh; sisters Nona Jean Frueh, Mary Jane DelGrosso, Rose "Rosie" Fox, Louise Henne, Ruth Emert, and Carolyn Hart.

Our generous, talented, patient, and beloved Alice will be deeply missed and will forever remain in our grateful hearts. We are thankful for the excellent care provided to her by BRMH staff and St. Croix Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice Vold's memory may be made in her name to St. Croix Hospice, 1540 Heritage Blvd., Suite 201A, West Salem, WI 54669 or Jackson County Animal Shelter, 416 County Rd. R, Black River Falls, WI 54615.

A memorial service will be held September 16, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC), 115 North 5th St., Black River Falls, WI, followed by a Celebration of Life reception between 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the church.
