Genell Johnson
Genell Rae Johnson, 76, life long resident of Osseo, passed away in hospice care early Saturday morning October 21, 2023, at her daughter Jodi’s home in Osseo.

Genell was born Nov. 16, 1946, to Raymond and Ethel (Langworthy) Gehres. She attended school in Osseo where she graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1964. She was baptized and confirmed at the Osseo United Church of Christ and after her marriage to William “Billy” Johnson on April 15, 1966, she had been an active member with Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osseo.

Before her marriage Genell received training as an x-ray technician in Milwaukee and then served her internship at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. She went on to have a 43 year career in this field, 32 of those years at the Osseo Hospital and 15 years with Marshfield Clinic in Eau Claire, working several years at both locations. After she retired in 2010 she still wanted to keep active so took a position at the Quilt Yard in Osseo.
Genell enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She loved traveling and was fortunate to have cruised down the Rhine River, she visited England, Ireland, Norway, Tahiti in the South Pacific and Mexico, as well as experiencing New York City and the changing leaves down the eastern coast of the United States. She looked forward to her trips out west where she hunted in earlier years and later just taking in the sights. While traveling she was always looking for unique rocks and pheasant feathers to take home and even rattle snakes so she could remove their rattle to add to her collection. Over the years she had also enjoyed snowmobiling, camping and canoeing.

Genell had a huge heart and always wanted to help. She opened her home to many over the years who needed assistance in some form. She loved going to thrift sales not only to find that treasure, but to also collect fabric to use for the many mission quilts that she made, as she was also an excellent seamstress. Her kindness and thoughtfulness also extended to many of the animals and birds she fed and cared for.
In her home she enjoyed entertaining, whether it was her royal tea parties or holiday family gatherings. She made sure that everyone was well taken care of.

Genell will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jodi (Vic) Stephens and Ingrid (Jon) Logterman all of Osseo; 3 granddaughters, Brittani (Cole) Slinker of San Francisco, CA, Naomi and Bernice Logterman both of Osseo; Billy Johnson of Osseo; cousins, Betty Ward of Osseo who was her number 1 traveling companion over the years, Jill (Langworthy) (Al) Weisenbeck of Augusta, Kevin Langworthy (Kris Stage) of Burnsville, MN; Johnson in-laws and their families; other relatives and many friends.

She is now reunited with her dad “Cuzz” who died Aug. 21, 1963; mother Ethel on Oct. 17, 2003; and Ray Seipel who was a loving step father to Genell who passed away on Oct. 30, 2016.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, W16316 County Road OO, Osseo, with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating. .

Burial will be at a later date in the Osseo Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
