James Gappa
James Gappa, 62, formerly of Blair passed away Saturday evening, May 20, 2023, at the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation in hospice care. 

James Clarence Gappa was the first born child of Glenn and Ruth (Pampuch) Gappa. He was born in Winona, MN, on July 5, 1960, a wonderful big brother to his sister and 9 brothers. As a young boy his family moved from Winona to Englewood, California. In 1967 they returned to Winona and 2 years later moved to Blair. He graduated from Galesville High School in 1978. Jim served his country in the Army National Guard and during his 4 year enlistment he spent time in Germany.

Jim was united in marriage to Shawn Gray in 1991 and this union was blessed with their daughter,Danielle. He lived in Chippewa Falls and for 28 years Jim had been employed in the shipping department for Ashley Furniture in Arcadia. He retired in 2016. After his retirement he worked with his son-in-law at Kunz Woodworking in Augusta. 
Jim was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, 4 wheeling and hunting. 

For the past thirty years, Jim with his extended family would rent a houseboat on Lake Vermillion in Tower, Minnesota. Many enjoyable and lasting memories were made during these weeks. 
At the age of 47 Glenn, Jim’s father passed away. Jim being the oldest of the 11 children stood by his mother and was always there to help with the younger siblings. This character of kindness and helpfulness stayed with him throughout his life. 

On October 17, 2022, Jim suffered a debilitating stroke that hospitalized him for over 3 months. Requiring acute care he transferred to a swing bed at Mayo in Bloomer and to be near his daughter he entered the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation in March of this year. 

Those who he touched the dearest will deeply miss him; his daughter Danielle and Chris Kunz of Augusta; grandchildren, Kyler Kunz and Zoey Bishop of Augusta; mother Ruth Gappa of Blair; 8 brothers, Ben and Laurie of Holmen, Joe and Germaine of Galesville, Bob and Rose of Ettrick, John of Peterson, MN, Edward and Julie, and Tim and Tricia all of Trempealeau, Mike of Holmen and Brian of Blair; sister, Theresa (Ray) Millonig of Stevens Point; sister-in-law, Lisa Gappa of Blair; several nieces and nephews and their families. 

  In addition to his father passing away in 1983; he was also preceded in death by his brother Bill in 2014; and nephew Jacob Gunther in 2022.
