Donald Melcher
Donald Frederic Melcher, son of Roman and Mary (Sweet) Melcher was born November 4, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the oldest of four sons. Don was raised in Chicago where he attended grade and high school and went on to study at the American Academy of Art. He was a very talented painter, musician, writer and poet. Don was married to Marlene Franke for 27 years.

Don became a stationary engineer and worked until his retirement for the City of Chicago, working at O'Hare International Airport. After his retirement he moved to Merrillan, WI, before moving into Oakwood Hills Retirement Community in Eau Claire, WI. 

It was at his apartment that he passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, reaching the age of 88 years, 5 months, 13 days. He was in the loving care of his family and assisted by the staff of St. Croix Hospice.

Don was a loving father and family man and will be dearly missed by his children, Mary Melcher (Doug Solie) of Humbird WI, Teri (Raivo Balciunas) Melcher of Eau Claire WI, Dan (Michelle) Melcher of Naperville IL, Tom (Maria) Melcher of Hoffman Estates IL, Tina Gregor of Palos Hills IL, Rich Melcher of Sterling IL, and Connie (Gaben) Moore of Madison WI; his stepchildren Karen D'Andrea of Bloomington, IL, David D'Andrea of Chicago, IL, and Mark D'Andrea of Arlington Heights, IL; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Melcher of Arlington Heights, IL; and his many grandchildren, niece and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Mary; brothers, Richard in 1966, David in 2016; and granddaughter Annie O'Brien in 2003.
Burial was held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Fairview, rural Fairchild, WI.
