He attended grade school in Lafayette Township and graduated in 1963 from Cadott High School. With his family he developed Woodland Farms which encompassed the 4 Vollbrecht family farms, with the first of those farms being established in 1886. He and his wife were still living on the farm that came into the family in 1901, and it was at this location that he designed and built the barn. In addition to farming, Russ had served on several boards such as the Town Board of Ludington, Eau Claire County Zoning Board, ASCS Board, and the board for AMPI. Russ had an interest in music and enjoyed singing at funerals and weddings over the years, he played the alto saxophone and piano, and also composed music. In addition to being a husband, father and grandfather, he was also a caregiver to his elderly family members.

Russ will be dearly missed by his wife Pat; 2 daughters, Cheryl and Jeff Wolf of West Bend, Shelby and Aaron Mildebrandt of Ripon; 3 sons, William Vollbrecht of Waupun, Zacharey and Lona Vollbrecht of Cadott, Matthew Vollbrecht (Jessica Gerczak) of Chippewa Falls; and 14 grandchildren.

Russ was preceded in death by his mother Doris in 1970; his father Vernon in 1984; grandparents, Herbert and Carrie Vollbrecht and James and Mary Price; and uncle Vince Vollbrecht.
