Frances West
Frances A. West, 92, of rural Fall Creek, passed away Thursday morning Dec. 20, 2018 at her home in the loving care of her family and Interim Homecare and Hospice.
Frances Ann West, daughter of Hilary and Clara (Markham) Elbert was born September 14, 1926 in Lincoln Township, Eau Claire County. She was raised with her siblings in Lincoln township where she was baptized on Oct. 31, 1926 and confirmed on August 6, 1939, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Bears Grass, rural Augusta. Frances attended country school and graduated from Augusta High School. She went on to get her teaching degree from Eau Claire Normal Teaching College and U.W. Eau Claire. Frances taught a total of 44 years, starting at Pride Country School, then to Russell Corner Country School, Altoona Junior High School, Seymour Country School, and when she retired in 1989 she had taught many years as a 2nd. grade teacher in Fall Creek. Frances was united in marriage to Wayne West on Sept. 14, 1946 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Bears Grass. In the early 1950’s the couple moved to Seymour township and Frances lived there until 1994 when she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannine and Paul. Frances’ family meant the world to her. After her mother passed away in 1972, she moved her father in with her and made a home for him until he passed away. Over the years she enjoyed all the family gatherings; the holidays at Gladys Strasburg’s home, at her home, and then with Paul and Jeannine. She loved spending time babysitting her generations of grandchildren, reading to them and teaching them to read. In her younger years she treated her family to delicious homemade bake goods and in later years spent many hours reading her favorite novels. Frances had been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.
Frances will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jeannine and her husband Paul Price, Debora West all of Fall Creek; 6 grandchildren, Wayne Price, Michelle Peterson, Angela (Gary) Brown, Lori Price, Jennifer (Zachary) Kakel, David (Hailey) Ball; 19 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, June West of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Elmae West of Belvidere, IL, Judy West of South Beloit, IL, Rosie West of Augusta.
Frances was preceded in death by her mother Clara on June 18, 1972;her father Hilary on Dec. 11, 1987; husband Wayne on Dec. 29, 1969; son Randy on July 14, 2014; granddaughter Elizabeth Price on Sept. 23, 2017; siblings, Jean in infancy, Jeanette Goodman and Josiah Andrew Elbert; and nephew Hilary Elbert.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
