Iner Stensen
Iner A. Stensen, 88, of Augusta, passed away early Thursday morning May 17, 2018 at the Dove Healthcare Nursing Home in Osseo, with family at his side.

Iner Arnold Lewis Stensen was born Oct. 7, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Iner Andrew & Nina Marie (Arneson) Stensen. He was baptized on Aug. 31, 1931 at Kyle Lutheran Church, Kyle, Saskatchewan, Canada by his grandfather Pastor Mathew C. Stensen and confirmed on June 20, 1943 at Osseo Lutheran Church in Osseo, by Pastor O. C. Aune. In 1937 the Stensen family moved to Otter Creek Twp. rural Augusta, where he attended Scott’s Valley Country School and graduated from Augusta High School in 1948. On July 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Virginia Maye Rahl at Osseo Ev. Lutheran Church. The couple raised their 7 children in Otter Creek Township, where in 1950 they started with 280 acres and expanded the operation to 1000 acres by the 1980's. After Virginia passed away on Sept. 31, 1986 he married Joan (Kubera) Steinke on Dec. 7, 1996 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bear Grass, rural Augusta. The couple lived all their married life in the city of Augusta. In 1964 Iner was the recipient of the Eau Claire Co. Jaycees Chapter "Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year”. At this ceremony he was congratulated by speaker GreenBay Football legend Fuzzy Thurston and accepted by the National Selection Board.Iner was also in the National Junior Chamber of Commerce Publication as "Outstanding Young Men in America in 1965". Iner was a very progressive farmer and in 1970 he became the first farmer in the area to use the "Chisel Plow" on a regular basis and in 1993 he said "It never left the farm".Also in 1978 he purchased an"International Harvester No-Till Planter" which led the way in new conservation technology. In July 1887 he contracted with the Wisconsin Conservation Corp and Eau Claire County for barnyard systems, waterways, stream crossing and stream bank fencing.Iner had a passion for snowmobiling and in the 1970's he snowmobiled to Thunder Bay, Canada on a seven day 1120 mile round trip at the rate of 20 miles per gallon. This endeavor earned him the distinction of being the first group from Wisconsin to cross into Canada by snowmobile from the U.S.

Since the mid 1990’s Iner focused a great deal of attention to collecting tractors, with a special passion for the Co-op’s and Farmall’s. He loved sharing his collection with the community through the parades in Augusta, Fairchild, Osseo and Fall Creek, eventaking in an extended run with son Jeff and sleeping under the tractors. He also had a small-to-scale collection equally impressive. In early years he was a representative for Jacques Seed Corn and with that came company trips to Hawaii, Mexico and a cruise. Twenty years ago with his wife Joan he thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Norway.
