Lois J. Piel, 83, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire.
Lois June Piel was the born on June 24, 1935 in Brackett, WI, daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (Jurjens) Erdman. She was raised in the Brackett and Cleghorn area where she attended Brackett Elementary School. In 1945 her family moved to Augusta where she attended Augusta High School. On June 22, 1957, Lois was united in marriage to Edgar Lyle Piel in Black River Falls. The couple moved to Milwaukee where they lived until moving back to Augusta in 1962. In addition to raising her 6 children, Lois had been employed by the Augusta Area Nursing Home where she worked in the dietary department. She baby sat for many children in the Augusta area, worked at the Augusta Bakery, and in the kitchens of both the Country Inn and Chuck’s Black Bear Supper Club. Before fully retiring she had worked as a senior aide for the Augusta School District. Lois loved her family and cherished her good friends. She had an infectious laugh and in turned enjoyed entertaining others with her goofy sense of humor and witty sayings. If you knew Lois you knew how much she enjoyed fishing, but also playing cards, doing needle point,knitting, crocheting, and keeping her mind stimulated with word puzzles.
Lois will be dearly missed by her 2 daughters, Cheri (John) Back of Neillsville, JoAnn (Pete) Czubakowski of New Haven, Indiana; 4 sons, Edgar “Ed” (Julie) Piel of Chippewa Falls, Bill Piel, Larry (Tari) Piel, and Dave Piel all of Augusta; brother, Jim (Jean) Erdman of Augusta; sister, Betty Yule of Alma Center; sister-in-law, Diane Erdman of Augusta; 24 grandchildren, Michael Piel, Joseph Galetka Jr., Amy Galetka, Holly (Ryan) Schniederwent, Benjamin Galetka, Kegan Back, Kaitlyn Back, Dawn (Jason) Gerke, Matthew (Jillian) Zillmer, Carrie (Jeremy) Korn, Lucas (Ericka) Zillmer, Christopher and Andy Dunlap, Zackaery and Tyler Czubakowski, Krystle Piel (Kyle Marchbanks), Bridget (Noah) Peters), Petra (Matthew) Watton, Kyra Storberg, Amber (Josh) Plamp, Jessica (Nate) Piper, Joshua Barbosa, Lyle and Marcy Olson; and 33 great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her father Herbert on March 1, 1985; mother Elizabeth on April 20, 1998; brother, Donald “Tunk” on March 8, 1998; husband, Edgar on August 1, 2004; and brother-in-law, Jim Yule on March 8, 2010; and her favorite little dog Angel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at noon at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services Tuesday.
Following the services sandwiches with a pot luck lunch will be served at the Augusta Fire Station. If you want to add to the pot luck anything would be welcomed.
