Violet Hass
Violet Hass, 94, of Fairchild passed away peacefully at her home September 10, 2018 in the presence of her family. 

Violet was born December 16, 1923 in Strum, WI to Anton and Minnie (Haugen) Nelson. Her early working years was in the Owen, WI area where she assisted with caring for patients during their hospital stay and home care after being discharged, and helping many new mom’s with infant and family care. Violet married Elmer Hass on February 4, 1956 and enjoyed over 50 years together. They farmed and raised 3 children on the same homestead Elmer was born and raised.Violet was a devoted Christian, wife and mother. She was a life long member of South Beef River Lutheran Church, being very active in the ladies aide, bible study and up until her death crocheted numerous lap blankets that were given to area nursing homes. Violet was a wonderful baker, every week making sure fresh biscuits, cookies and pies were made to go with the never ending pot of coffee always on the stove. She worked hard on the farm being in charge of “calf chores” and feedings and always enjoyed her Rummikub games with her sisters. Along with her sister Leah Nelson, she owned and operated the Nelson Resale Shop in Fairchild for over 13 years. Violet had a deep Christian faith and love of the Lord. Family was her everything. She was always there to help whoever needed assistance and only saw the good in people and life itself. She will be missed by all whom she has touched. 

Violet is survived by her daughter Kathryn (James) Foster of Eleva; sons, Steven Hass, Franklin (Jeri) Hass both of Fairchild; sister, Claire Van Horn of Fairchild; 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Cassie) Foster of Mandan, ND, Bridget Thundercloud-Wicka and Savannah Thundercloud both of Osseo; 5 great grandchildren, Weston, Jase and Bridger Foster, Claire and Brennan Wicka; many nieces and nephews.  

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; and siblings, Elinore Nelson in infancy, Lillian Primus, Lloyd, Sherman and Floyd Nelson, Mable Thompson, Margaret Van Horn and Leah Nelson.  

A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. at the South Beef River Lutheran Church, rural Osseo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the church with burial in the Fairchild Cemetery.
