George Westphal
George Westphal, 90, of rural Strum, Wisconsin died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Nov. 8, 2017 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona, Wisconsin. 

George Leonard Westphal, son of Otto and Pearl (Glenz) Westphal was born May 24th, 1927 near Allen in Eau Claire County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Cleghorn and was a member there until 1962. He then became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cleghorn for the remaining years. He graduated from Lincoln Hills High School in Osseo, Wisconsin in 1945. George was united in marriage to Bernadine Otto on August 30th, 1953 in Cleghorn, Wisconsin. He served on the ASCS Board in Eau Claire County for ten years and had been a member of the Town of Clear Creek Town Board. George sold Dairyland Seed for 25 years and was named Eau Claire County Farmer of the Year in 1960. He farmed on the family farm until moving off in 1984. He continued to work on the farm well after his retirement. George loved fishing trips to Canada, gardening, hunting and over 30 years of card playing with his friends. Through out the years he also enjoyed the friendships made while being a part of the dartball team for Zion Lutheran Church.

George will be dearly missed by his wife Bernadine of 64 years; son Ron (Julie) Westphal and daughter Linda (Tim) Brown, all of rural Strum; grandson, Ryan (Jess) Brown, granddaughter Angela(Josh) Gullicksrud, and grandson Derrick (Andrea) Westphal; 3 great granddaughters, Emma and Maddea Brown and Macy Gullicksrud; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

George was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Jessica Westphal; sister Viola Lauterbach; and sister-in-law Delores Otto. 

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon at Zion Lutheran Church in Cleghorn.  

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Timothy Moe officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
