Leora Sieg
Leora E. Sieg, 90, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday morning, June 13, 2017 at the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation.

Leora Eldora Sieg, daughter of Gustav and Julia (Pieske) Gonitzke was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Lincoln Township, Eau Claire County. Leora was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Fall Creek, and attended country school in Brackett. Before her marriage she had worked as a clerk for J.C. Penney’s in Eau Claire. Leora was united in marriage to Fredrick E. Sieg on March 8, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Town of Bridge Creek, rural Augusta, until retiring and moving into the city of Augusta in 1981. For a time after moving into the city, Leora worked cleaning at the Augusta Farmers Union. For many years she worked as the assistant to the Director of the Augusta Senior Center, retiring from this position in 2010. Leora had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed her participation with its ladies society. She loved riding her bike, and only gave it up as well as gardening in 2008, due to a heart condition. Over the years she enjoyed embroidering on towels, reading the newspaper, and while at the nursing home playing bingo and doing word search.

Leora will be dearly missed by her daughter, Phyllis and Fred Siegenthaler of Madison; granddaughters, Nicole Siegenthaler of South Africa, Kayla Ludwig of Eau Claire; grandson, Casey Ludwig of Eau Claire; great granddaughter, Autumn Reneau of Eau Claire; sister, Arlene Lauterbach of Eau Claire; godchild, Annette Rasmussen of Eau Claire; and special family friend Craig Vinopal of Augusta. Leora was preceded in death by her husband Fred on March 8, 1983; daughter Julie on Sept. 29, 2016; and sisters, Elvira Bain and Ruth Volbrecht. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Leora had been a resident of the Augusta Nursing Home since Sept. of 2015. The family would like to thank the staff for the wonderful care she received. A special thank you also goes to the staff and residents for providing a loving family atmosphere for Leora.
