Mary Lou Ryan
Mary Lou Ryan, 73, formerly of Minnesota and Fairchild, took her last breath and peacefully passed away on Oct. 18, 2016 at Palmer Place Adult Family Home in Augusta, under the gentle care of Mayo Home Hospice, surrounded by worship, and those who loved her dearly.

Mary Lou, daughter of Vincent and Geraldine (Nienaber) Tlougan was born March 29, 1943 in Illinois. She was united in marriage to Roger F. Compart in 1961 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, to this union 3 children were born. The couple lived in Preston, Minnesota, before moving to the Compart family farm in Nicollet, Minnesota, where she kept busy caring for those 3 young children. Following her divorce she worked some local factory jobs before taking CDL training in Rosemount, MN. After receiving her license to drive semi she delivered bulk mail in Minnesota for several years. During these years she continued to lovingly provide for and play with her children. She enjoyed taking them to the lake or teaching them how to ride mini-bikes. She also welcomed many other teens to her table. On Sept. 3, 1984, Mary Lou married Richard L. Ryan in Wabasha, Minnesota. The couple lived in Waseca before moving to Colorado, and eventually back to Wisconsin where they lived in Stockholm, and in 1990 to be somewhat closer to her grandchildren they moved to Fairchild.

While in Fairchild she drove for a patient transport company out of Black River Falls, where she transported individuals to a day activity center and home again. She also worked in the home health care field. During this time she (Grammy) along with Dick (Grandpa Bear) spent much time with her grandchildren; playing in the creek, climbing the “mountain” as they rode on Grandpa Bear’s shoulders, reading stories, singing, cooking many large family meals and rocking them in her chair (even when they were bigger than her!). After Richard passed away on Nov. 7, 2008, she stayed in Fairchild for a short time before moving to her apartments in Osseo and then to Fall Creek. Requiring more assistance she entered Palmer Place in April of 2013. Throughout her life Mary Lou had enjoyed her family, knitting and crocheting during times of not smoking, all of her pets—including Patches (the house goat), Rusty (their dog), and her cats. At Palmer Place she developed an interest in adult coloring these last months. She not only enjoyed this pastime there, but also enjoyed interacting with the staff that made her and her beloved feline companion “Thomas the cat” part of their family.

Mary Lou’s memory continues to thrive through her loving children, Tamara (Bill) Everett of Annandale, MN, Melissa Compart of Osseo, and Scott Compart of Rochester, MN; treasured grandsons, William Everett II of Wilmington, NC, Benjamin Everett, Samuel Everett and Zechariah Everett; and also by her animated great-grandson, Emery Justice Franco Everett; and her beloved four-legged feline, Thomas.

In addition to her husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her siblings, Rita Ellis and Duane Tlougan.

There will be two celebrations of life for Mary Lou. The first will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with visitation starting at 4 p.m.

The second will be held in December for those that are not able to attend the celebration in Wisconsin. Burial will be at a later date in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Janesville, Minnesota.
