Al Polinkse
Herbert Allen Polinske “Al”, 90, of the Augusta Area Nursing Home passed away early Friday morning, February 12, 2016 at the home.

Al was born April 30, 1925, one of nine children born to Herbert H. and Gladys (Higbee) Polinske. He was born and raised in Ludington Township and had attended Pine View Country School. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington. As a young man he started working on the farm of Emil and Anna Buchholz in Ludington Township and this relationship lasted throughout his life. When Emil and Anna retired and moved into the city of Augusta in 1970, Al moved to town with them and continued to live in their home. After Emil passed away and Anna entered a nursing home Al moved into an apartment in Augusta, where he lived until entering the nursing home in April of 2014.

Throughout his life Al enjoyed working on the Buchholz farm and especially enjoyed farming with the use of the horses rather than modern tractors. While in Augusta, Al help with the Buchholz’s as best he could and also mowed lawn and shoveled snow for many Augusta residents. Al will be remembered as one who loved visiting with family and friends and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Al will be dearly missed by his 2 brothers, Philip and Kenneth of rural Stanley; 2 sisters, Marilyn Mansur of Augusta and Joyce Pilgrim of Cadott; several nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 4, 1979, mother on July 4, 1988, siblings, Robert on June 10, 2002, Diane Polinske on Jan. 1, 2003, William on July 14, 2011 and Dave on April 2, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington with Pastor James Norton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday before services starting at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.

The family would like to take this time to thank the staff at the Augusta Area Nursing Home for taking such good care of Al and making him feel welcomed as resident and a member of the nursing home family.
