LaVonne Lone-Grindle
LaVonne “Vonnie” Lone-Grindle, 56, of rural Boyd, passed away Friday evening, June 3, 2016 at Our Lady Victory Hospital in Stanley.

LaVonne Lorraine Lone was born Sept. 3, 1959 in Eau Claire, the daughter of Gordon and Arlys (Henning) Lone. She was raised in Augusta, where she was baptized into the Baptist faith, attended grade school and graduated from Augusta High School in 1978. On January 3, 1987 she was united in marriage to Daniel Herrick at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta. To this union her 3 children, Scott, Jesse and Jaimie were born. In 1987 Vonnie also earned a degree in nursing from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire. She married John Grindle on May 4, 2012, and the couple made their home in rural Boyd. Vonnie had lived most of her life in the Augusta area and worked as a registered nurse for nearly 30 years. She began her career at the Osseo Hospital and then worked 15 years at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. She had also worked as a dialysis nurse at Our Lady Victory Hospital in Stanley, before transferring to her current position in the Medical Telemetry Unit for Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Vonnie’s jobs assignments were concentrated mostly in the cardiac and renal units. Vonnie just naturally was a loving and gifted nurturer. Her family and especially her children were the recipients of her extraordinary gift. This caring demeanor made her the nurse she eventually came to be. She wasn’t satisfied with giving just the basic care, wanting if at all possible to give that little extra touch to make her patients more comfortable and at ease. It went without saying that she loved nursing, but she also hadmany interests. She had a tremendous fondness for animals; especially the many horses and dogs she had throughout her life with a soft spot in her heart for Boston Terriers. She was an old fashioned baker that had perfected her grandfather’s famous recipe for baking buns, a must at most family functions.

She never lost that desire to continue learning, as she enjoyed reading nonfiction and various text books dealing with a wide diversity. If you needed help with spelling, Vonnie was the person to turn to. She also had an appreciation for collecting antiques. She loved music and never turned down an opportunity to listen to her children play the piano. The special touch
that Vonnie had for others will never be forgotten and our memories of her will be treasured forever.

Vonnie will be deeply missed by her husband, John Grindle of rural Boyd; 2 sons, Scott Herrick (Kyle Ritschard) of Madison, Jesse Herrick of Augusta; daughter Jaimie and Jordan Topinka of Little Chute; her South Korean daughter, So-yeon Yim of Seoul;step son, Jamie Grindle of Thorp and his two children, Emilu and Beau Grindle; 4 brothers, Gary Lone (Shelly LeBarron), Glenn and Judy Lone, Loren and Donna Lone, and Fred Lone all of Augusta; sister, Darlene and Joseph Young of Franklin; brother-in-law, Dennis Theiler of Fairchild; aunts and uncles, Joanne Quilling, Dale and Linda Lone, John and Ione Lone all of Augusta; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon on Jan. 30, 1993, and Arlys on Sept.22, 2015; infant siblings Ruth Ann and Brent Allen Lone in Feb. of 1962; sister Jeanine Theiler on March 8, 2005; and nephew Michael Lone on Dec. 2, 2008.
