Gayle Kunz
Gayle A. Kunz, 84, of rural Augusta, passed away Wednesday morning March 2, 2016 at the Fall Creek Valley Care Center.

Gayle Arlene Kunz, daughter of Cleve and Ruth (Robbins) Kirkham was born March 25, 1931 in Eau Claire. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew and started at Robbin’s School both in Eau Claire. In 1937 she moved with her family to their farm in the Kirkham Valley area just outside of Augusta, here she attended Kirkham Valley Country School and graduated from Augusta High School in 1949. Following graduation she worked at JC Penney in Eau Claire. On June 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Wesley Albert Kunz at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bear Grass with Pastor E.G. Schedler officiating. Just prior to her marriage she was confirmed and became a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The couple farmed all their married life in Lincoln Township and after their retirement they built their present home just a short distance away from the farm. In addition to her role as wife and mother to 7 children, she gave so very much of herself and time to others. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Ladies Society and when St. Peter’s closed she transferred her membership to St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Fall Creek. She also enjoyed her membership with its ladies society and quilting group. Through her church involvement she often helped at Bethesda Thrift Shop in Eau Claire. She had been a member of the Eau Claire County Homemaker’s Club and helped with her children’s involvement with cub scouts and 4-H. She was also a nursing home auxiliary member of both nursing homes in Augusta and Fall Creek. Bringing joy to the residents was very important to her as she not only took the time to visit them but for special occasions also took the time to deliver greeting cards. Through the years she had also driven bus for the Rodell Country School and decorated and delivered many beautiful cakes for all occasions. Gayle will definitely be remembered as a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, a volunteer wherever needed and one who gave generously to others.

Gayle will be dearly missed by her 5 sons, Alan (Susan) Kunz of Altoona, Brian (Barbara) Kunz, Duane Kunz, Jeffrey (Dana) Kunz, Gregory (Heidi) Kunz all of Augusta; two daughters: Cheryle (Don) Hayman of Ottawa, IL, and Joyanne (Douglas) Wirtz of Marshfield; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Berry of Stevens Point; 2 brothers, Leon (Judy) Kirkham of Augusta, Dean Kirkham of San Angelo, TX; aunt Doris Zank of Augusta; sisters-in-law, Arlene Schiefelbein of Fall Creek and Kathleen Gregor of Augusta; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Gayle was preceded in death by her husband Wesley on April 26, 2005; parents Cleve and Ruth; brother Arlen Kirkham; grandson Russell Kunz; son-in-law Scott Booth; and daughter-in-law Nancy Kunz.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Fall Creek, with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
