The following was written by Miles’ oldest granddaughter, Christie.

Grandpa
Adventures at Grandma and Grandpa’s were always extra special and Grandpa was a big part of that. Not many people are lucky enough to be close to their grandparents but for us Grandpa and Grandma’s was a bike ride away.

My cousins and I would go swimming in the creek, jump on the bed to rockin’ around the clock, go ice skating on the rink Grandpa made just for us, march and sing songs in the garage following his lead, make “soup” and other concoctions in the sandbox, and race around the driveway putting miles and miles on our 2-wheelers so he could tune up our tires when we made pit stops in the shed. Grandpa had a love for Morgans and taught us how to take care of the horses and kittens in the barn but one thing he would never do was change a diaper.

Grandpa was always a good sport and our greatest supporter. He played along with our Christmas plays and even was our client at the beauty salon. He encouraged us to work hard and follow our passions. Whether it was hunting, target practice with milk jugs, four wheeler rides, scavenger hunts or baseball games in the yard we were always outside with him.

Grandpa shared his values and taught us many life lessons. All of us learned a lot from him and he always told us how proud he was. He encouraged us to be successful and helped us prepare for the next things in life: he taught us how to drive while we sat in his lap, gave us dollars for every A on our report cards, and helped prepare us for college and our first jobs.

Grandpa was a simple guy, all he needed was the paper, an afternoon nap and applesauce with his brownies. He was an honest, humble, hardworking, resourceful man and the success of his family and business represents that.

On Sunday April 3rd, his angel wings were ready even if our hearts were not. May we always cherish the home videos, memories and keep his Ole and Lena jokes alive.
