Ron Westlie
Ronald L. Westlie, 66, of Eau Claire, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at his home in the care of his loving family and St. Joseph's Hospice.
Ronald Lynn Westlie, son of Helmer and Beverly (Hoff) Westlie was born August 15, 1949 in Hood River, Oregon. As a child he moved with his family and had attended school in Menomonee Falls, Milwaukee and Whitehall before moving to Augusta, where he graduated from Augusta High School in 1968. Ron was united in marriage to Bonita Sie on April 14, 1973 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. The couple lived in Minneapolis, Strum, Osseo and Augusta, moving to Eau Claire in 1994. Ron had worked 17 years at Medix in Eau Claire and after they closed he worked at Hutchinson Technology until ill health forced his retirement.
Ron was a very quiet, patient and kindhearted man. His world revolved around his family and the love they shared for each other.
At an early age he had enjoyed playing the guitar with his father, and it meant a lot to him to share this tradition with his own son. Ron could be described as a true “tinkerer”. He would spend hours taking things apart, fix what was broken, often with homemade parts and put them back into working condition. This was evident over the years in the number of cars that he bought that were less than desirable and with time and effort made them roadworthy. He was even talented at sewing worn interiors. He had also enjoyed the time hunting and fishing both as a son, and as a father.
Ron will be dearly missed by Bonnie, his wife of 42 years; son Dan Westlie of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Shelly and her husband Ernie Bowe of Kennesaw, Georgia; grandson Logan Skoug of Eau Claire; sister Audrey and Bill Englesby of Augusta; Bonnie’s parents, Barbara Cox of Chippewa Falls, Bernard and (Barb) Sie of Lake Geneva; Bonnie’s siblings, Brenda Frees of Chippewa Falls, Beverly and Al Swanson of Las Vegas, NV, Bruce and Julie Sie of Prior Lake, MN, Brian and Lisa Sie of Cornell, Blake Sie and Rick of Florida; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ron was preceded in death by his mother Beverly on Nov. 6, 2012; father Helmer on Oct. 13, 2014; and brother Daniel on Jan. 10, 1969.
Private graveside services will be held in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. The family was assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
