Hilma Szydel
Hilma V. Szydel, 94, of Fairchild, passed away Thursday evening, May 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Hilma Vivian Szydel, daughter of Siguard and Jessie (Beals) Hendrickson was born Oct. 6, 1920 in Castle Rock, South Dakota. She was raised in Deersear, S.D., with her 4 sisters and 2 brothers. For work, Hilma moved to Sturgis, S.D. and eventually moved to Wisconsin in 1938, where she met Andrew Szydel. The couple later married on March 30, 1940 at the United Methodist Church in Augusta. Andrew and Hilma farmed all their married life on the Szydel family farm. In addition to raising her 9 children, Hilma worked on the farm, tending to the animals and especially enjoyed the alone time milking the cows. Throughout the years she planted large vegetable and fruit gardens and spent many hours canning her harvest to feed her family. She also loved the beauty of her abundant flower gardens and watching the birds that were attracted to them.
Hilma’s family meant the world to her and she was always looking forward to the next family photo to add to her legacy that she so proudly displayed on her wall.

Hilma will be dearly missed by her 5 sons, Gale and Patricia Szydel of Chippewa Falls, Montie and JoAnne Szydel of Athens, Terry and Jacqe Szydel of Osseo, Kevin and Elena Szydel of Honduras, Steven and Doris Szydel of Altoona; 3 daughters, Carlotta and Ken King of Eleva, Sherri and Stephen Brown of New Richmond, Pam and Charles Brevik of Holmen: 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Hilma was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew on Dec. 16, 2003; her son, Mickey in 1977, grandson, Seth Szydel in 2013; 3 sisters, 2 brothers and one brother in infancy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairchild Cemetery.
