Alma Kaufman
Alma E. Kaufman, 96, formerly of Fairchild, passed away Monday, February Feb. 23, 2015 at Grace Edgewood Assisted Living in Altoona.

Alma Elizabeth Kaufman, daughter of Paul and Frieda (Schenk) Zerbel was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Humbird,Wisconsin. As a child she attended grade school in Humbird and graduated from Humbird High School in 1936. Alma was united in marriage to LaVerne Joseph Kaufman on Jan. 28, 1939, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fairview, rural Fairchild. The couple lived the first year of their married life on the Kaufman home farm, before moving to their home in the town of Mentor, Clark County, rural Fairchild. Alma and her husband owned and operated the Y Bar in Fairchild from 1940 until selling the business in 1977. Alma had been a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview, and a member of St. Anne's Society. She was also a member of the Fairchild Chapter of A.A.R.P.
Alma had a very caring and giving personality and only wanted to help others in anyway possible. She was always willing to drive people anywhere or help others whenever called on. She loved being surrounded by kids and often took care of her many nieces and nephews. Through the years she was fortunate to have traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, on a Caribbean cruise, Switzerland, and many other places in the U.S. She had also enjoyed quilting, gardening, her flower bed and always had a special love for the many dogs she had throughout her life.  

Alma will be dearly missed by her son, Michael Kaufman of Menomonie; sister, Doris and her husband, John Kleckner of Lancaster, WI; sisters-in-law, Betty Zerbel of Black River Falls, Geraldine Kaufman of Fairchild, Merline Kaufman of Milwaukee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Alma was preceded in death in by her parents, husband, LaVerne on Nov. 27, 1994; 3 brothers, Arthur, Herman and Don Zerbel; and sister, Lorraine Schwienler.

Memorial services will be he held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at noon at the Anderson Funeral Home inAugusta, with burial in the spring in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery in Fairview. Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home on Saturday.
