Herbert Kallas
Herbert Kallas, 85, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday afternoon, December 14, 2015.  

Herbert Edward Kallas, son of Edward and Helen (Rodesco) Kallas was born March 20, 1930 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He was raised in Beloit where he was baptized at St. Paul’ Catholic Church and confirmed at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Herb attended Beloit High School . At the age of 16 he joined the U.S. Air Force during W.W.2 and was stationed in the Philippines where he worked as a cargo master loading planes. After his honorable discharge he returned to Beloit and worked at the Beloit Iron Works for 3 years and later at Fairbanks Morris Company. While in Beloit he met Doris Madsen, who he eventually married on June 28, 1955 in Webster, South Dakota. Herb and Doris moved to Neillsville, WI, where they operated the Burkhart’s Café. They later moved to Eau Claire, where they operated the café in the Hotel Edwards, also Hanson’s Restaurant and before retiring owned the Copper Kettle Cross Town Café. 

Herb is survived by several nieces and nephews; special friends and care givers, Kim and Leonard Ducommun of Eau Claire and their family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris on April 2, 2011 and siblings, Eleanor, Eddie and Robert Kallas. 

Graveside services for Herb will be held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery in Withee, WI.
