Dan Carlson
Daniel Carlson, 82, of Augusta, passed away at his home on May 14, 2015.

Daniel Duane, son of Ninus and Emily (Rich) Carlson was born in Bridge Creek Township, rural Augusta on January 1, 1933. He was raised in the township, where he attended Russell Corners Country School and graduated in 1951 from Augusta High School. In February of 1953, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Panama until he was discharged in February of 1955. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Augusta to help on the family farm in addition to driving semi. He eventually met Donna Raasch of St. Paul, where the two later married on Nov. 2, 1963. The couple started their life together in St. Paul, while at this time Dan was driving semi. He had driven for several companies, driving the longest time for International Multi Food based out of Inver Grove Heights, MN. In 1980, Dan moved his family back to the home farm in Augusta, he still drove semi but also raised beef, pigs and crops. After Dan suffered a heart attack at the age of 65, he slowed down some and eventually retired in 2005. Dan was a life long learner. Through his interest in reading newspapers, farm magazines, investment materials, he was able to keep up with current affairs. He knew that working a computer would open a new door to learning, so he gave it his best to learn how to operate one. He also enjoyed watching farm related television programs, football games and NASCAR.

Dan will be deeply missed by Donna, his loving wife of 51 years; son, Steven and Jody Carlson of Osseo; daughter, Annette and Artie Soborowicz of Bessemer, MI; brother, Neal Carlson of Menifee, CA; 4 grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Ewing, Chance, Colt and Damon Carlson; great granddaughter, Madysen Ewing; and sister-in-law, Barbara Meeker of Eau Claire.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mervin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Gary Sahs officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
