Tom Berlin
Thomas Berlin, 77, of Altoona, formerly of Fairchild and Augusta, passed away early Thursday morning Dec. 3, 2015, in the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.
Thomas Warren Berlin, son of Gilbert and Althea (Halsey) Berlin was born Nov. 24, 1938 in Charleston, Illinois. He was baptized in Charleston before moving with his family to Woodstock, Illinois. Tom attended school in Woodstock and it was there that he was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. At the age of 17 he started driving semi, retiring as a Teamster Union driver in 2002, after 47 years as a long distances driver. Tom was united in marriage to Darlene Thomas on Nov. 1, 1955 in Corinth, Mississippi. The couple lived in the Woodstock and Marengo area of Illinois, moving to Augusta in 1975, and then to Fairchild in 1989. After Tom relocated to Wisconsin he drove for Bob McBride and Diamond Transport. Tom enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He also spent many hours tinkering with woodworking projects, reading westerns and attending auctions. He believed in recycling aluminum and striping copper and was always saving pop can tabs to donate to the Children’s Miracle Network that went to operating the Ronald McDonald’s House.
Tom will be dearly missed by his daughters, LuAnne Cantu and Linda Hagedorn both of Osseo, Lisa and Kenneth Bohl of Fairchild; son, Lannie and Shirley Berlin of Rice Lake; 13 grandchildren, Michael (Brenda) Cantu, Jennifer Berna, Nicholas Cantu, Aaron Reetz, Corey Lynn (Chris) Price, Billi Jo (Dan) Waugh, Kendra (Jason) Weidner, Jonathon Bohl, Jeremiah Hagedorn, Ashley Walker, Cooper Berlin, Christine (Justin) Kodesh, Courtney Berlin; 14 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles (Shirley) Berlin and Jack (Jane) Berlin all of Florida. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene on Nov. 29, 2012; son-in-law, Jerry Hagedorn on Oct. 30, 2010; and siblings, LaVern Berlin-Helm, Nancy Berlin-Hooper, Rex and Donald Berlin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Friends may call before services on Saturday the 12th. starting at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
