Gary Arndt
Gerald E. Arndt, “Gary”, 85, of rural Augusta, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Oakridge in Osseo.

Gerald Ervin Arndt, son of Alvin and Amalia “Mollie” (Wolfgang) Arndt, was born April 3, 1929, on the family farm in Bridge Creek Township, rural Augusta. Gary was a baptized, confirmed, and life long member of Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. As a child he attended the Dells Country School and graduated from the Augusta High School in 1947. Gary served in the military police of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict at Camp Gordon, Georgia, and in Korea. After his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Augusta, to start his 36 years of employment with the Eau Claire County Highway Department, retiring in 1989.
Gary was united in marriage to Adeline Richards on April 14, 1951, at the Grace Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple lived in the city of Augusta, before purchasing their farm south of Augusta, in the late 1960’s. In the late 1980’s, they moved to their present home just north of Augusta. Gary had always enjoyed raising his animals in addition to working with the county, and continued with the animals after his retirement. With his sons he enjoyed many local hunting and fishing adventures, as well as trips out west and into Canada.

Gary will be dearly missed by Adeline, his wife of nearly 64 years; 4 sons, Randy and Renee Arndt of Altoona, Brad and Tami Arndt of Wheatland, WY, Steve and Sue Arndt of Augusta, Tim Arndt and Denise Gilbertson of Sheridan, WY; 6 grandchildren, Shannon (Carl) Maly, Josh (Alexia) Arndt, Seth (Susie) Arndt, Andrew (Amy) Arndt, Amanda Arndt and Hunter Arndt; 4 great grandchildren, Jack, Adriane, Emma and Lydia; brother, Mark and Maxine Arndt of Augusta; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Arndt, Eleanore Richards both of Augusta,
Elaine Richards of Eau Claire, Joyce Richards of Altoona.

Gary was preceded in death by his father in 1969; his mother in 1981; two infant sisters; and brother Donald in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Burial with military rites will be held at the East Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors and staff at both Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, and Mayo Clinic Health System-Oakridge, Osseo. The care and compassion shown to Gary in both facilities, with such professionalism will never be forgotten.
