Helmer Westlie
Helmer E. Westlie, 91, of Osseo, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 13, 2014, at his home in the care of his family and Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice.

Helmer Ellsworth Westlie, son of Oscar and Tillie (Nelson) Westlie was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Blair, Wisconsin. He was raised in the Blair area where he attended school. Helmer was united in marriage to Beverly Mae Irene Hoff on August 25, 1945 in Blair.

The couple lived most of their married life in the Augusta area where he had driven for Herb Knuth Trucking, worked on the farm of Milton “Red” Dickinsen and when he retired at the age of 62, he was driving for Brunzlick Trucking out of Augusta. In the early 1990’s, Helmer and Beverly sold their home in Augusta and moved to Osseo. During his retirement years he spent much of his time on woodworking projects. If he saw something he wanted to make, with no plans or patterns he could make it, from working spinning wheels and phonographs, to cabinets, cradles, rocking chairs and toys. Throughout the years he had also enjoyed music, especially playing his guitar and singing with his brothers.

Helmer will be dearly missed by his daughter, Audrey (Bill) Englesby of Augusta; son, Ron (Bonnie) Westlie of Eau Claire; 4 grandchildren, Laura Englesby (Mitch Farah) of Augusta, Nick Englesby of Augusta, Shelly (Ernie) Bowe of Kennesaw, Georgia, Dan Westlie of Chippewa Falls; 3 great grandchildren, Lauren Holcomb of Augusta, Ksenya Englesby of Charlotte, N.C., and Logan Skoug of Osseo; 5 sisters, Marion (Roger) Ringgenberg, Helen Underdahl, Shirley (Don) Mager, Margie Niece, Linda (Terry)Blaisdahl; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Helmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife Beverly on Nov. 6, 2012; son Daniel in 1969; 6 brother, Silas, Orville, Oscar Jr., Kenneth, Roy, and Floyd Westlie; 4 sisters, Phyllis Saxse, Alice Knudtson, Esther Roberts and Melva Ketelboeter.

Private family services will be held at the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
