Margaret Van Horn
Margaret Van Horn, 88, of Osseo and formerly of Fairchild, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health System- Osseo. 

Margaret Van Horn, was born December 1, 1925 in Strum, Wisconsin, one of nine children born to Anton and Minnie (Haugen) Nelson. In 1929 the family moved to Fairchild, where Margaret attended Sunny Brook Country School and graduated from Owen - Withee High School. Following graduation she worked at the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild.  

On July 21, 1947, Margaret was united in marriage to Ellis Van Horn at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild. The couple lived and raised their family in Owen. Margaret received training as a certified nursing assistant and worked for many years at the Clark County Care Center in Owen. After Ellis and Margaret retired they moved to Fairchild in 1986, and then to Osseo in July of 2002. After Ellis passed away on August 7, 2004, Margaret continued to live in Osseo. Ellis and Margaret where members of Price Evangelical Lutheran Church until its closing, and then joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild. Margaret always enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends.  

She is survived by her sons, James Van Horn of Florida, Mike Van Horn of Colorado, nephew/son, Randy Nelson of Altoona; daughter, Janet and Tom LaPointe of Marshfield; daughter-in-law, Nancy Van Horn of Waukesha; 8 grandchildren, Dana (Jamie) Morton, Kathy Riez, Jodi Van Horn, Virginia Van Horn, Ashley Skaare, Tara, Mitchell and Alexandra Nelson; 4 great grandchildren,, Taitin and Tanner Skaare, Brandon Morton and Scarlett Smith; 2 sisters, Claire Van Horn of Price, Violet Hass of Fairchild; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lillian Primus, Mable Thompson, Leah Nelson, and brothers, Floyd, Sherman, and Lloyd Nelson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild, with Pastor Rickey Bertels officiating. Burial will be in the Fairchild Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour before services Saturday at the church. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
