William Sieg
William E. Sieg, “Bill”, 84, of Augusta, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire, with his loving family at his side.

William Ernest Sieg was born Aug. 4, 1930 in Eau Claire, the son of Ernest and Frankie (Hilts) Sieg. He was raised in the Town of Bridge Creek, rural Augusta, where he attended Bills Country School. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1948. Bill was baptized and confirmed at the E.U.B. Church in Augusta, and it was there that he was united in marriage to Norma Barka on Aug. 19, 1950. The couple farmed in rural Augusta before moving to Waterloo, Iowa in 1955, where for 12 years Bill was employed at the John Deere Factory. In 1967 they returned to Augusta, where they farmed until 1973. For the next 20 years and most of that time with Norma, Bill drove semi truck for several companies, when he retired from driving he was hauling Toro lawn tractors. Wanting to stay active, Bill and Norma took on the roll as sextons for the Augusta Cemetery Association, a position they held and enjoyed for 16 years.

Throughout the years Bill had been a member and past president of the N.F.O., he served on the Augusta Cemetery Board, was a member of the United Methodist Church in Augusta, and had been a member of the Augusta Lions Club where he was honored as Lion of the Years. For the cemetery association Bill and Norma were instrumental in computerizing the cemetery records and also spent countless hours helping people locate graves of their loved ones. Bill’s family meant everything to him. He always enjoyed the time he spent with family, whether it was building the baseball field in his back yard in Iowa, to a family game of cards, checkers or friendly competition of Wii Bowling. He was always happy to help family and friends whenever needed, but always joked while doing it, “I just don’t get any rest.”

Bill will be deeply missed by Norma, his loving wife and almost constant companion for 64 years; 6 daughters, Bonnie and Peter Michels of Eau Claire, Darla and Robert Kampen of Endeavor, Sandra and Scott St. Onge of Montello, Jolene and Mike Canaday and Sharon and Wyatt Hadorn all of Augusta, Donna Sieg of Eau Claire; son Benny and Clarice Sieg of Augusta; sister Lyla Agema of Baraboo; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and pets, Gracie and Mabel.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don and Jeane Sieg; brother-in-law, John Agema; Norma’s parents, Fred and Neva Barka; Norma’s siblings, Fern and Glen Smith, Warren and Bernice Barka; and good friend Dale Dickinsen.

Funeral services will be held Wed. Aug. 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, with Pastor Lon Jury officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
