Allen Schimmelpfennig
Allen H. Schimmelpfennig, 80, “Al Schimm” of Augusta, passed away early Friday morning, November 7, 2014, at the Augusta Area Nursing Home.  

Allen Harold Schimmelpfennig, son of Alvin and Blanche (Tande) Schimmelpfennig was born March 1, 1934 in Garfield Township, Jackson County. He was raised in Augusta before moving to Fairchild, where he graduated from Fairchild High School. Immediately following graduation he moved to Milwaukee, where he was employed by Allis-Chalmers. Al enlisted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 5, 1954, he served at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, before being shipped overseas. After his honorable discharge on Sept. 20, 1957, he returned to the Augusta area and worked for U.S. Rubber Company at the Gillette Tire Plant in Eau Claire. He eventually took a position with Heekin Can Company in Augusta, working there until his retirement when the plant closed. Some of Al’s favorite pastimes included trout fishing in the local streams and attending thrift and garage sales. He especially enjoyed collecting watches and buying old Coleman lanterns that he could refurbish and sell.  

Al is survived by his son, Terry (Pam) Schimmelpfennig of Fairchild; 2 sisters, Beverly Terrell and Lonna Schimmelpfennig both of Milwaukee; Beverly’s children, Mary Lynn (Anthony) Clementi of Leesburg, FL, Rhonda (Edward) Artenian of New Berlin, and Robert (Kim) Terrell of Sussex. He will also be dearly missed by his special friend, Diane. 

Al was preceded in death by his mother on Sept. 7, 1953, his father on Jan. 8, 1990, and his son Michael.  

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Dale Hazard officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Augusta area veterans will be held in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
