Hobert Knowlton
Hobert E. Knowlton, “Hobbie”, 90, formerly of Osseo, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at Azure Memory Care in Eau Claire.
Hobert Elsworth Knowlton, son of Willis and Wilhelmina (Grahn) Knowlton was born April 25, 1924 in Cadott.

As a child he moved with this family to Eau Claire, where he was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, attended Hutchinson Elementary School and Eau Claire High School.

During W.W. II he served in the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific as a platoon sergeant with the 2nd. Marine Division, 6th. Marine Regiment. During his four year enlistment he served on the islands of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian and also in Okinawa. Following his discharge from active duty he served with the reserves for an additional 4 years. Hobbie believed, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” He was united in marriage to Jean Herrick on March 13, 1948 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. The couple lived in Eau Claire, where he worked as a mechanic at the Texaco Station on Madison Street before leasing and operating the Standard Station on Birch Street. Unable to work around certain chemicals encountered in the service station, he started Knowlton’s Auto Supply, selling automobile parts until 1991. After selling the business he and Jean moved to Osseo. Due to failing health he entered the Azure Memory Care in June. Throughout the years Hobbie had enjoyed all types of hunting, often giving the meat of his hunts to needy individuals. He also enjoyed refurbishing horse drawn carts and sleighs. For several customers he built horse drawn bob sleds. Wanting to keep his hands busy, Hobbie worked on various other woodworking projects and also had time to help others.

He will be dearly missed by Jean, his wife of 66 years; son, Charles and Dawn Knowlton of Arcadia; daughter, Holly and Don Peuse of Eau Claire; 4 grandchildren, Dramus (Jessica) Peuse, Justin (Shannon) Peuse, Dallas (Tricia) Knowlton and Heather Schneider; and by 8 great grandchildren.

Hobbie was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Ervin, Lenora, Clarence, Charles, Howard, Gertrude, George and Viola.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.

A private family service will be held with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
