LeRoy Hagen
On March 21, 2014, LeRoy (Le) G. Hagen laid aside his tool belt and headed to the big beautiful garden of his dreams.  Born March 12, 1929 and raised in the Levis area outside of Osseo, Le attended high school in Fairchild and Alma Center.  Le was working at the Hatfield skating rink when his beautiful blue eyes met those of his brown-eyed girl, Anne M. Madsen. They were married September 29, 1950 and lived in Milwaukee until they moved to Neillsville and then Osseo in 1955.  Le held various jobs until he began working with his father as a carpenter.  He was very proud of the houses he and his dad built in the Osseo area.  Beginning in 1986, Anne and Le spent many enjoyable times at their cottage on Coon Fork road and at the Coon Fork beach.  In 2000, both retired, Anne and Le moved from Osseo to Paris, TN.  They spent winters there and summers at their Coon Fork home until Anne’s death in 2006.  Le then moved to Augusta and was fortunate to meet many new friends plus maintain many prior friendships from his days in Osseo.  Augusta residents welcomed him and it was common to see him downtown for coffee most days.   Le did “small jobs” for many people after his retirement until the year before his death.   He was always busy and a very hard worker.  He also knew how to relax after a hard day’s work and took extreme pleasure in sitting on his screen porches, visiting his cottage and the Coon Fork beach, reading, feeding birds, and gardening.   He made annual visits to his son Cary and family in California the last years of his life that brought him great enjoyment. He counted on his Sunday morning breakfasts with his son Chris every week for years when he relocated to Augusta.   Le waited for his daughter-in-law Marlene to bring over her fantastic baked goods.

Le was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie (Johnson) Hagen, wife Anne (Madsen), daughter Lin Hagen, grandson Lee Christopher Hagen, an infant sister and other relatives.  He is survived by son Christopher (Marlene) Hagen from Osseo, son Cary (Kari) from San Juan Capistrano, CA, daughter Lora Hagen (Darrell Gunderson) from Sheboygan, granddaughter Kelsey Hagen from California, grandsons Mitchell Hagen and Max Hagen (Lacey McCann) from Eau Claire, and great-granddaughters Shay and Shyann Hagen of Eau Claire.  He is further survived by his brother-in-law’s wife, Jane Madsen from Mauston and sister-in-law’s husband, Herb Kallas, from Eau Claire, as well as cousins and his wife’s nieces and nephews.

Thank you to friends of Le who were supportive and loving before and during his illness.  You freely gave care, visits, food, companionship, rides to doctor visits, haircuts, and much more.  Special thanks to the Augusta Area Nursing Home staff-you know who you are!  To the nursing staff for all the special care and concern not only for Le but for his family, the dietary staff who made any food they thought Le may eat, the activity department for all the attention they lavished on him, PT, the cleaning and laundry staff, the custodian for hanging his bird feeder.  You are all angels on Earth.

Cremation will take place prior to Le’s funeral. Visitation will be at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Internment will take place at the Levis Cemetery following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to purchase a new piece of playground equipment for the Augusta city playground next to Le’s house.  Sitting on his screen porch Le could see the enjoyment the children had at the park and he wanted this fun to continue.
