Dale Dickinsen
Dale D. Dickinsen, 83, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire surrounded by his loving wife and family after a year long struggle with cancer.

Dale Dean Dickinsen, son of Virgil L. and Emma (Pettis) Dickinsen was born April 28, 1930 in Augusta. He lived all of his life in Augusta, where he graduated from Augusta High School in 1948, and went on to attend one year each at Ripon College and UW-Eau Claire, before completing the one year short course in Dairy Management at UW-Madison. On July 29, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Jeanine Hubbard. Dale’s livelihood began with his management of Better Dairies in Augusta along with his brother Milton, before joining his father in the Dickinsen Insurance Agency. After his father’s death he owned and operated the agency from 1965 until his son, Kent, took over the business in 1996. Dale also took an interest in farming and throughout the years was involved with the East-Dale Farm.

Dale was a baptized and life long member of the Methodist Church, which became the United Methodist Church, where he served in several church offices as well as a Sunday school teacher.

Dale’s family meant the world to him and actively being there for them never faltered. He and Jeanine spent countless hours and traveled many miles to attend their children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. Dale and Jeanine were members of the Augusta Booster Club and following the Augusta Beavers was automatic, whether or not family members were participating.

Dale took great pride in his hometown roots and because of this he gave a great deal of his self to the community. He was a member of the Gideons and Odd Fellows and served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He served on the Augusta Nursing Home Building Committee and on their board, the Industrial Development Committee, the Bridge Creek Town Board and the Eau Claire County Board.

Dale’s involvement in the Lion’s Club was an important part of his life, serving in several of their offices, participating in all of their events and spending many hours managing the Lions Hall. The local Lions recognized his dedication by honoring him with the Lion of the Years, the Lion of the Year and the Melvin Jones Awards.

Dale also enjoyed the annual deer hunt out at the cabin with family and friends, fishing trips to Canada, bowling in his younger days, attending and putting on auctions and most recently thrift sales. Dale was never shy and always enjoyed a good conversation with family, friends or strangers.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Jeanine, his wife of 63 years; 2 sons, Kent and Debbie Dickinsen, Brent and Debra Dickinsen all of Augusta; 3 daughters, Debra and Robert Nugent of Cumberland, Stacia and Brian Strauch of Augusta, Dana Dickinsen of Madison, 14 grandchildren,Jeanine Nugent, Danielle Nugent, James (Jamie) Nugent, Corey Nugent, Scott (Rachel) Dickinsen, Andy Dickinsen, Brennan Dickinsen (Mandi Sieg), Matt Dickinsen, Alexis (Dennis) Bergman, Brittany (Warren) Honadel, Branden (Katria) Strauch, Brett “Ted” Strauch, Amanda Strauch (Nick Landers); 8 great grandchildren, Jaidan Nugent, McKaylee Johnson, Charles Nugent, Thomas Dickinsen, Sophie and Hadley Bergman, Noelle Strauch, Levi Landers; uncle and aunt, Don and Hazel Dickinson of LaCrosse; sisters-in-law, Donna Dickinsen of Augusta, Doris Dickinsen of Yakima, WA; other family members, special friends too many to mention.

Dale was preceded in death by his father Virgil in 1965, mother Emma in 1987, grandson Braden Dickinsen in 2008, brothers, Milton “Red” and Neil Dickinsen both in 2012, and Dale never forgot his hunting partner Ace, his best black lab ever.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, with Pastor Lon Jury officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Memorials can be made to the Augusta Area Foundation, for the new Augusta Nursing Home building project.
