Erwin Zempel
Erwin Zempel, 84, of Eau Claire died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Erwin Clarence Zempel, son of George and Adelia (Pehlke) Zempel, was born Dec. 12, 1929 in Otter Creek Township, Eau Claire County. As a child he attended Plainview Country School in the township and graduated in 1948 from Lincoln High School, Osseo. He was united in marriage to Beverly Krenz on Oct. 1, 1955 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Foster and to this union 4 children were born. The couple later divorced and he married Phyllis Grave. After Phyllis passed away he was reunited in marriage to Beverly on October 9, 1993 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. The couple farmed in Otter Creek for 5 years before Erwin took a job in the maintenance department at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire and then with the Osseo Hospital, which he held for 30 plus years, retiring in 1991. After his retirement he immediately started with the volunteer program at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, where he worked in transportation and in any other areas needing help. Over the years Erwin had loved working in the outdoors and watching the Green Bay Packers.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Beverly of Eau Claire; 2 sons, Norman and Jeri Zempel of Augusta, Brian Zempel of rural Osseo; 2 daughters, Sandra Zempel and Lisa Wincek both of the Twin City area of Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, Thomas Zempel (Heidi Prokash), Nicholas Vasquez both of the Twin Cities, Jamie (Joe) Barone of Cadott; 2 great granddaughter, Isabella and Emma Barone; brother, Harold (Cleo) Zempel of Rochester; sister-in-law, Elaine Zemple of rural Osseo: and very special canine companion Benji.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward Zemple.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with Pastor James Norton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Foster. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
