Margaret Walker
Margaret L. Walker, 87, of the Fall Creek Valley Care Center, passed away at the center on Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 2013, comforted by and in the care of the staff and her loving family.
Margaret Lucille, daughter of Henry and Sarah (Cole) Dittner was born April 27, 1926 in Clark County. She was raised in the Butlerville area before moving to Greenwood where she attended high school. Before her marriage she worked as a beautician apprentice in Cornell and then moved to Eau Claire where she was employed at the Farmer’s Store.
She met Gordon Walker and the couple later married on June 11, 1948 at the Thorp Methodist Church. Gordon and Margaret farmed for 38 years, first in the Osseo area and then in the Town of Bridge Creek, rural Augusta. In 1986, the couple moved into the city of Augusta. Gordon and Margaret moved to the Town of Washington in 1999, and after her husband passed away she moved to the Fall Creek Valley Care Center in October of 2010. The role of wife and mother was extremely important to Margaret. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. She loved to sew for her family and garden. From her garden she made wonderful boiled dinners and often on Saturday hosted a pancake breakfast for the grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta. Her faith was an important part of her life and she found comfort in praying, especially for her family and their well being. Margaret was a wonderful role model for her 5 daughters,
Diane (William) Barnes of Marion, North Carolina, Gloria (John) Dickinsen, of Fall Creek, Susan (Keith) Carey of Eau Claire, Denise (Walt) Wood, and Sharon (Brian) Herbison all of Fall Creek; she is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon on April 28, 2010 and brother, Maynard and Norman Dittner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Augusta, with burial in the Thompson Valley Cemetery, rural Augusta. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
