Bernard Matysik
Bernard A. Matysik, 93, formerly of Brackett, passed away at the Fall Creek Valley Care Center, early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013.

Bernard Andrew Matysik, son of Andrew and Clara (Macnik) Matysik was born January 4, 1920. Bernie was raised in the Fairchild area until moving to Altoona, where he attended school. He was united in marriage to Pearl Bertha Henning on June 12, 1941, in Eau Claire. The couple lived most of their married life in Brackett until 2000, when they moved to Wonder Haven Apartments in Fall Creek. Due to failing health, Bernie and Pearl entered the Fall Creek Valley Care Center on October 4, 2011. For a few years Bernie farmed in Bracket, but spent the majority of his life employed for the Chicago Northwestern railroad in Altoona, working mainly as a mechanic. Bernie and Pearl spent many enjoyable days traveling throughout the United States with Holiday Vacation bus tours. He also enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing.

Bernie is survived by his 6 nephews, Peter, Joseph, James, Andrew and Anthony Gunderson, and Peter Matysik; sister-in-law, Catherine Martin of Eau Claire, and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl, his wife of 71 years who passed away February 13, 2013, and siblings, Barbara Gunderson, Margaret Matysik, Aloysius and Clarence Matysik.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, where a rosary service will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raymond’s of Penefort Catholic Church in Brackett, with a visitation 1 hour prior to services.
