Lylia Leonard
Lylia M. Leonard, “Babe, 88, formerly of Fairchild, passed away early Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eau Claire, where she had been a resident since March of 2010.

Babe was born March 26, 1925 in Spring Green, Wisconsin. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Spring Green, attended rural country school and East Side High School in Madison. She was united in marriage to Arthur “Shorty Leonard in 1946 in Madison. The couple lived in Madison until moving to their farm on County Road H, north of Fairchild in 1966. In addition to their small farm, they owned and operated Babe’s Bar in Fairchild. After Art passed away on July 3, 1973, Babe continued to operate the bar for several years with the help of Clarence Dobrynski. After selling the bar she was employed in the dietary department of the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild, where she worked until her retirement. Babe was an active citizen of Fairchild, helping with fund raisers and serving on committees to benefit her community. She was a member and long time president of the Fairchild American Legion Auxiliary, helped with the local library, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church, with its’ ladies society and as a Sunday school teacher. Babe and Clarence were honored by the citizens of Fairchild when they were asked to serve as the Grand Marshall in the Fairchild Fun Fest parade. Babe enjoyed traveling and after her retirement she and Clarence spent several winters in Titusville, Florida. She also spent many enjoyable hours working on crafts, especially crocheting and knitting afghans and recently crocheting helmet liners for U.S. soldiers.

She will be deeply missed by her 2 sisters, Elinore Waterman of Columbus, WI, Charleen and Wesley Lovejoy of Blue River, WI; long time companion, Clarence Dobrynski, a resident of the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eau Claire; several nieces and nephews in Texas, Florida, Poynette and Columbus, Wisconsin. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents.
