Ethel Klatt
Ethel L uella Klatt, 97, formerly of Fairchild, passed away in the care of Mayo Hospice at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Altoona.

Ethel was born to Rudolph and Clara Thur on July 9, 1915 on their farm in Cleveland Township in Jackson County. On May 20, 1933, Ethel was united in marriage to Walter Klatt. The couple lived all their married life in the Fairchild area. Following the death of Walter in 1967 , Ethel moved into her trailer in town at the base of the Fairchild school hill. She enjoyed many years cooking for the residents at the Fairchild Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the St. Paul's Ladies Society. Her hobbies included reading, growing beautiful flowers and knitting slippers and mittens for her grandchildren. She loved dancing and listening to country and gospel music.

Ethel was a health nut and could be seen daily walking the streets of Fairchild. She was always happiest when spending time with her family and cheering them on in their many endeavors. She especially enjoyed their musical gifts and watching them play softball , a sport she loved as a girl . In later years, Ethel moved to Golden Acres Assisted Living Residence in Altoona where she was affectionately called "Roadrunner" because of how fast she could travel with her walker . She joined St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

Ethel loved her Lord and Savior and worship and service to Him was very important to her throughout her entire life. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune. When Ethel moved to Country Terrace she quickly became known as a bingo champion. She loved visiting with family and friends who stopped by and especially enjoyed the music that different groups would perform for residents there. Her last days were spent with many who came to check on her often and for that we are all grateful. Most of those moments she would sleep but she always seemed to awaken to join in when a hymn was sung or scripture was read.

Ethel is preceded in death by husband Walter, sons Leonard, Donald & Duane, daughters-in-law Janice and Cheryl, siblings Ervin, Ernest & Gordon Thur and Adelia Janke Selz, grand daughter-in-law Barbara Klatt and grandson Robert. She is survived by her sister, Darlene Hollister of Union Grove, daughter-in-law Yvonne Klatt of Chili, 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI with viewing and visitation prior from 10:00am-12:00n. Burial will follow the service at Fairchild Cemetary.
